Meteor Staff Scale the Heights for Charity - June 2010

Three members of staff from Meteor Security have raised nearly £900 for charity by climbing Mount Snowdon.

Scott Walker, Hakan Mehmet and Khairul Zaman, front of house security at East Thames Group’s West Ham Lane offices, raised the money for Children In Need by climbing the 3560ft high mountain in April 2010.

It took the team approximately 5 hours to reach the summit, via one of the longest and steepest paths, with blisters making an unwelcome appearance for them all.

None of the men had any climbing or walking experience and admit there was a distinct lack of training for the event. Asked why they decided to do the walk, Hakan said,

“I’m still trying to answer that question myself! It seemed like a good idea when we first had thought of it. I’m not sure it felt such a good idea half way up!”

Hakan continued,

“It was really strenuous but worth it. The path we took was one of the steepest but also one of the most picturesque. Sadly when we got to the top the café was closed because of the volcanic ash cloud. After a 20 min rest we began the descent.”

Director of Security Services at Meteor Security, Heathrow Airport Khush Homji said,

“We are delighted that Meteor staff have taken such a proactive approach to raising money for this very worthy cause, and Meteor Security will of course be contributing to their fundraising effort.”

The summit-scaling threesome are already planning their next venture with the Three Peaks Challenge in their sights.
